Self Defense



The primary focus of Trent Taekwondo is to give students the opportunity to develop self-defense skills. The instructional staff has experience in a number of different martial arts to provide students with a wide variety of such skills. These skills have their roots in Hapkido, JuiJitsu and Karate as well as Taekwondo. Students are encouraged to present situations or scenarios they would like explored. Every class will have a self-defense segment involved to give as much practice as possible. Attacks from single attackers against defender standing, sitting will be explored along with ground release skills. Defense against common weapons will also be instructed along with defense against multiple attackers With sufficient practice these instructed skill will contribute to a person’s ability to defend themselves.



Competition Team


For those interested Trent Taekwondo has a competition team that is open to all interested university students. The competition team participates at all Ontario University Taekwondo Competition League (OUTCL) games and select Ontario Taekwondo Association (OTA) events. In a typical year 3-5 events are attended.

Competition team training is directed by the team coach, Mr. Davy Guo 2nd Dan WTF and managed by Master Doug Johnson. Classes are conducted at the Trent Sport and Recreation Centre outside of regular class times. There will be opportunities for competitors to train at other dojangs (martial art schools) throughout the academic year as well.
