Fleming/Peterborough Sports
and
Wellness Centre Taekwondo

Peterborough Sports and Wellness Centre Taekwondo July 2007 During the winter of 2001 Mr. Doug Johnson and Mr. Spencer Scott were invited by the Recreation, Fitness and Lifestyles Department of Sir Sandford Fleming College to begin instructing self-defense at the college.

Beginning as a strictly self-defense club it evolved in to a program similar to that of Trent Taekwondo at the insistence of the participating Fleming students. During this time the students of Fleming began to train with Trent students at a third site. The members of Fleming Taekwondo immediately began to participate in all aspects of Taekwondo as it was instructed creating what has been known as Trent/Fleming Taekwondo.

With the completion of the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre Taekwondo has moved from the basement of Fleming College to the new facility. The program is identical to what has been described previously. This evolutionary process has created what is currently known as Trent/Fleming/PSWC Taekwondo. The main result of this evolution is that the Trent/Fleming Taekwondo experience is available to the community of Peterborough.

Fleming/PSWC Taekwondo classes are on Thursdays in multipurpose room C running from 8:05-9:20pm (2005-2120hrs) beginning September 25, 2008.

Ms. Heather Macdonald 2nd Dan will be instructing a women’s self-defense course Thursdays at the PSWC from 8:30-9:30pm (2030-2130hrs) beginning September 25, 2008. This class will deal with avoiding conflict and how to deal with a larger attacker.

Interested parties in either class are encouraged to inquire at the Peterborough Sports and Wellness Centre. The Centre can be reached from the Thanks, Credits and Links page or at (705) 742-7777.
